At Refuge City Church, we are passionately in love with our Heavenly Father!  In times of corporate worship, many different expressions are used including singing, shouting, praying, the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12), dance, flying of banners, and expressive art such as painting or drawing.

Many may wonder, why do we spend time during our services expressing ourselves in such a way?  Especially for someone who has not been part of a corporate worship service, these forms of worship may seem foreign, intimidating, or even puzzling.  We are serious about insuring our forms of worship align with Biblical patterns as we believe The Bible to be the infallible Word of God. So below, you will find some brief Biblical explanation of the types of worship you may experience at Faith Tabernacle.

Hymns, Spiritual Songs and Prayers

Ephesians 5:18-21
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Ephesians 6:18
…praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…

Clapping and Shouting

Psalm 47:1
Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!

Hebrews 13:15
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

Arts – Dance, Banners, Painting

2 Samuel 6:14
Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.

Psalm 149:3
Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

Sanctuary Volume

While we never want to exceed comfort levels for the amount of decibels we set the sound reinforcement system to, we do believe it’s important for God’s people to sing out boldly and worship freely.  A solid volume provides the confidence to sing out no matter who is around you.  We strive to provide quality and balanced sound reinforcement for the benefit of corporate worship unto God.  We take dB (decibel) level readings during every service and are usually measuring at or below the national average of decibels for churches of our style.  We maintain safe volume levels for the duration of our services according to much research.  We do understand, however, that some listeners are more sensitive to volume than others.  If the volume exceeds your personal comfort, please know ear plugs are available at the display counter or you may feel free to bring your own.  We understand completely!

Psalm 60:4
You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah

Isaiah 62:10Go through, Go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; Build up, Build up the highway! Take out the stones, Lift up a banner for the peoples!

Exodus 36:2
Then Moses called…every gifted artisan in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, everyone whose heart was stirred, to come and do the work.

Exodus 36:8
Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains woven of fine linen, and of blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim they made them.
