People of Purpose

| Group Study |

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

God delights in using all of us to fulfill his plans and purposes on earth.  He didn't use perfect people in the bible, and the requirements for helping in the kingdom haven't changed for today.

Small groups are the perfect size to organize a project to help.  Take a few minutes and talk about ideas for a kingdom project that your group could take on.  A few ideas: Pack Operation Christmas Child boxes together, volunteer to be the greeter team together for one Sunday, put together bags of food/toiletries to handout to the homeless, volunteer at the Mission together.  Make a plan and continue talking about it in the next few weeks.

P. Jim makes the point that many people criticize the church and missions as being all about money.  Have you noticed the same thing?  Have you heard (or even said), "They always talk about money!"

Why do you think there are such strong feelings when money is mentioned at church?  Is there a different standard for the church than for the rest of the world?  Let's ask a "danger zone" question:  Do you trust that the money you give is being handled and used correctly?

scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 2 Corinthians 8:1-7

Jesus taught in a way that astonished people.  They recognized he had authority to teach and it was different from the way the scribes and Pharisees taught.

The same thing happened to Paul and other Christians throughout the ages.  Another word we use interchangeably is "Anointing."  What gives a Christian spiritual authority?  Is anointing simply a gift from God, or is there an action or lifestyle that goes along with it?

scripture: Mark 1:22, 2 Timothy 1:14

"God use me."  It's the riskiest thing you can say to God.  This one prayer can lead you to restore relationships, go into full time ministry, put an arm around a co-worker, further your education, or even move half way around the world.

Where do you think God is leading you?  What gifts, abilities, knowledge or possessions can you use if you pray this prayer?

scripture: John 14:12, Ephesians 2:10
